log dog is a piece of equipment used to hold a log in place whilst it is being worked on. They are usually metal and are driven into wood either by hand or using hydraulic or pneumatic tools. The log dog provides stability when working, often used in timber building construction or when wood with an irregular or unstable shape is being used, for example round pieces of timber or large trunks of wood.

There are several different types of Log Dog, the product in the top picture picture is also known as a log cleat and is normally used with round pieces of timber to prevent them from rolling. The bottom picture is a Log Dog usually used in wooden building construction to hold struts in place whilst they are secured.

The company name ‘The Log Dog’ came because of our family dog ‘Sprout’, a ‘Korthals Griffon’, from France and his obsession with carrying around anything he can fit in his mouth, this usually takes the from of either a log or a shoe. He runs off whenever he gets excited to get a log which usually results in the desired attention.
